Traveling in Macau while staying in Zhuhai is economical and you can enjoy the scenery of both sides. There are three ports between Zhuhai and Macau from the north to south: Gongbei, Wan Chai and Hengqin. Gongbei is in the city, more lively, but it is suffering to enter into Macau from Zhuhai via Gongbei in the morning, and you have to wait in long line at the customs; the traffic at Wan Chai is moderate, but the returning ferry from Macau to Zhuhai packs up earlier, and it is a regret to visit Macau missing the night scene; the traffic at Hengqin is sparse, but the terrain is remote. Strolling on Wan Chai Seafood Street in the morning, then entering into Macau via Wan Chai, back to Zhuhai via Gongbei at night is the ideal route.
It’s already afternoon when I arrived in Zhuhai, and then I was planning the trip after a rest. I was told that there was a Chu O night tour around the island in Wan Chai, a plan that happened to not waste the trip, so I went straight to Wan Chai. I already heard the music when approaching to Wan Chai. The tour was broadcasting, named “Portuguese style festival”.

Viewing the night scene of Macau across the river on the boat, while listening to the explanation, I was fascinated by the neon light of the new Grand Lisboa, then decided to visit Macau the next day until the evening, be sure to go close to it.

Survived torturous customs at Gongbei in the morning, I entered into the northern peninsula of Macau. The best way to have fun in Macau is to travel by the free buses of casinos. The casino buses reach out in all directions and you can play in the casinos one by one. But I was patient and did not immediately take the casino bus, instead, I walked among the houses in Macau, to taste life there. This experience was also rewarding to see a world of difference between the surrounding areas outside the city center of Macau and the downtown area I was about to enter in.
It’s getting late, and I then rushed to take the casino bus. Since Venetian’s line was the longest, I went to join in the fun. The trip to Las Vegas came back to me again. Las Vegas was built in a desert. I was approaching to that piece of man-made oasis in the desert; advancing from the northern peninsula of Macau towards the casinos has the same effect. Las Vegas is fake, and Macau is not so apparently fake, since it is after all a sea of islands, although you cannot drink this water. Located in the southern island, Venetian has everything you want there anyway.
I took the bus to the Sands when I left Venetian, because the Sands is in the city center, near Fisherman’s Wharf, where located all the casinos, with Venetian aloof from the world echoing from afar. It was evening when I arrived in Sands, and the lights were lit. The exterior of the Sands is more modern and stylish, and there are dance performances. It had a unique lingering charm when the singer was singing the song “Mama, Do you remember the old straw hat you gave to me”.
A street behind the casino is quite distinctive. I call it “Macau Xintiandi”, because it’s similar to Shanghai’s Xintiandi; the difference is that, relative to the streamy pedistrians in Shanghai Xintiandi, those of Macau’s are sparse. This is actually my taste, and let me leisurely stroll. Because of few people, the space feels relatively spacious.

There are street performances, Portuguese style, right? The Clown caught a beautiful lady beginning to perform.

Last stop is the most dazzling one, that is, the two exceedingly fascinating and charming ladies: Lisboa and Grand Lisboa. Going to meet these two beautiful women, you will certainly have to count the money in your pocket.

The Macau one-day self-guide tour was getting far away from the nobleness. I was still returning to Gongbei Zhuhai, but much less traffic than during the day.
